For Teachers & Parents
Teachers
This quest is designed for British Key Stage 2 children. It has been designed around the History National Curriculum and each level meets the following Key Elements, all (obviously) related to study unit 6.
|
Level 1 |
This only really relates to 'Organisation & communication' 5c. |
|
Level 2 |
'Chronology' 1a. |
|
Level 3 |
'Range & depth...' 2b. |
|
Level 4 |
'Range & depth...' 2b & 2c. |
|
Level 5 |
'Range & depth...' 2a & 'Historical enquiry' 4a & 4b. |
|
Level 6 |
'Historical enquiry' 4a & 'Organisation & communication' 5c. |
|
Level 7 |
'Interpretations of history' 3a & 'Organisation & communication' 5c. |
|
Level 8 |
None - This is the assessment task. |
This is obviously not exhaustive, there are areas, such as 'Interpretations of history' which, I feel, are far better managed and explained in the classroom. However, the main motivation behind the quest was to give children a taste of history as an interesting area of study. Also, to pass on some of my love of the subject. There is a link at the bottom of the page to a set of downloadable resources for all the levels.
Have I achieved these aims?
E-Mail me and let me know what you think. No doubt the quest will be developed over time and your comments will certainly inform any evolution that takes place.
Parents
This quest cannot realistically be undertaken without parental consent, (kids using valuable 'Net' and PC time etc). Nor can it be completed without a certain amount of parental/teacher's help. I've assumed that help with using the 'Net' will be forthcoming from parents, (or maybe the children are teaching you ????). I hope that any children using this site does not put undue strain on the 'phone bills. If so - I'm sorry but don't blame me - I'm trying to provide a service.
I make no apologies for including the book-site links. I feel that books, as well as the 'net can be used to help the children. As a parent myself, I'm well aware of family budgets and hope that this does not cause any friction. However, if you are to purchase any books on the subject, Amazon do provide an excellent choice, quick service and their prices are very competitive. I wouldn't have linked to their site if I weren't sure that they provided an excellent service.
Any queries about anything, please E-Mail me and I'll try to answer them.
I have used a lot of sources in making this site. Most of the photos are my own from a recent trip to Cairo. Others
are from books and websites collected over the last 18 months. I have either lost, or never took a note of, references
for these. If I have used an image I shouldn't have done, please let me know. The books that I have used and have
references for are shown below.
BROWN, S., (1998), Ancient Egypt - A Comprehensive Resource, Prim-Ed.
CHALABY, A. (1999), All Of Egypt, Bonechi.
CLARE, J.D. (1992), Pyramids of Ancient Egypt, Riverswift.
COTTRELL, L. (1961), Life Under the Pharaohs, Evans Brothers Ltd.
DfE, (1995), Key Stages 1 and 2 of the National Curriculum, H.M.S.O.
LAMBELET & REISTERER, (1995), Egyptian Museum Cairo, Lehnert & Landrock.
LLOYD, S. (1988), How To Be Brilliant At Recording In History, Brilliant Publications.
MARTIN, H. (1997), Ancient Egypt Resource Pack, BBC Education.
I would recommend the Sue Lloyd book to anyone - it is superb !!!!
